We are sharing the most useful mobile applications that really came in handy in Paris. They are free and work offline.

Attention: the description of applications is for Android. There are not always such applications for iOS, but I found similar ones. They might work a little differently.

MAPS.ME

It is difficult to plan walks without a Paris map app. It is free and works offline, just download the city map in advance. Put tags or create your own, lay out routes. Look for cafes, restaurants, attractions, shops, travel guides. You can even build subway routes there, so navigation apps are almost unnecessary.

MAPS.ME is an almost universal application, we love it very much. In general, if you are not using it yet, then it's time to start.

Le Menu

We had this most requested app in Paris. Everything ingenious is simple: someone has collected all-all-all French dishes and product names in a dictionary. Voila - you don't have to go through mountains of food articles in Paris and make lists of dishes in French with ingredients before you travel. This is convenient if you, out of ignorance, do not want to run into a dish of giblets or you have an intolerance to some product.

The app is in English, but it's still cool and helps out great.

Vivino

Find a wine for 10-20 euros, which in Russia costs ten times more? Easily! Come to the wine stand, open the "Vivino", scan the wine labels and look at the rating and price. We have so found inexpensive wines of Bernard Megre. Alas, you need the Internet to work!

Toilets in Paris

A couple of times I had to use the Paris toilet app. Unfortunately, the Android application needs an Internet connection to work properly - without it, the map does not load well, but you can find out the address and find it on MAPS.ME, for example. Or even look for a toilet on MAPS.ME, but there are fewer points there. Try another app - maybe you can find a better one.

Download for Android (internet required)

Download for iOS (works offline)

Paris metro

The Paris metro app is not particularly needed if there is a route planner. But if you want to have metro maps, maps of RER trains and buses, including night ones, download the simple application Paris Line Maps... Only cards, nothing more.

Translator

Beyond the competition - Google Translate. We use only it. You can translate by pointing the camera, but this still works with hilarious jambs. The quality of translation from French into English will be better than into Russian. For offline work, download the dictionaries of the required languages.

French phrasebook

Everyone understands the meaninglessness of phrasebooks. You say, they will answer you, but you will not understand anything, because there is no boom-boom in French. Better a translator! But with a phrasebook, you will win people over to you. Just learn at least basic bonjour, sa va, merci, sil vu ple, and the French will be pleased :)

Download the one with Russian transcription. We used this simple phrasebook (for Android)

Paris travel guide

If you didn't have time at home to read about Paris and plan an itinerary, download a free travel guide from Medusa. It's cool, written in an interesting and non-standard way.

Cheeses

Gourmet apps. If you are also a fan of cheeses and want to understand them at least a little, download applications with simple names:

  • "Cheese" - articles from "Wikipedia" in Russian. The good news is that you can learn the story. Download for Android
  • Further optional:
  • French cheeses - a quick reference in English and points on the map where each of the cheeses can be tasted. Download for Android
  • LeCheese is a community of cheese lovers. You can create a profile and assign grades. For each cheese - a photo, help in English and reviews. Download for Android

There are also tons of useful applications: for individual museums, Disneyland, taxis, restaurant searches or event posters. We have listed only those that we used ourselves. Write in the comments what other applications in Paris are useful to you.
