Jack london lake

Located in the Yagodinsky region among the mountains. The area is almost one and a half thousand hectares. The greatest depth is 50 m. It is part of the natural park of the same name. There are 4 islands, the smallest one conventionally divides the lake into two parts. There is controversy about the origin of the name. The most popular are two versions: London - the favorite writer of many geologists, his book "Martin Eden" was found in the vicinity.

Kolyma highway

The highway connects Yakutsk and Magadan. The length is more than 2 thousand km. Plays a key role for the development of the country's Far East. There are two branches, they are also alternative routes. They began to lay the route in the first half of the last century. Now the network is being modified and repaired. It was repeatedly mentioned in works of art. Sometimes referred to as the Kolyma tract.

Mask of Sorrow

Memorial created by Ernst Neizvestny in memory of the victims of political repression. Opened in 1996 and was supposed to be part of the "Triangle of Sorrow". The monument was installed in Yekaterinburg, but not in Vorkuta, so the project is not finished. The Magadan mask has a height of 15 m. The place for it was not chosen by chance, there was a transfer point on this hill, where prisoners were redistributed to be sent to different camps.

Magadan reserve

Founded in 1982. It occupies more than 880 thousand hectares, most of which are in the south of the region. The reserve consists of 4 sections, significantly distant from each other. Since it covers different natural zones and reliefs, more rare species can be preserved. In addition to protection, activities related to environmental education are carried out, there is a scientific department. There are two cordons in operation: "Moldot" and "Kheta".

Yamskie Islands

Archipelago in the Shelikhov Bay. They are mostly sheer cliffs standing on small pebble beaches. There is little vegetation, it is undersized. The waters around are rich in phytoplankton. The archipelago hosts one of the largest bird colonies in the North Pacific. Here you can watch seals and cetaceans. All 6 islands are part of the Magadan Nature Reserve.

Nagaev Bay

One of the most convenient anchorages for ships in the Sea of ​​Okhotsk. The eastern coast is the city of Magadan, the northern one is a large commercial port. Here, for a long time, storms have been waited out and replenished. In Stalin's times, there was a staging post for prisoners in the bay. Largely thanks to their work, the city was built. There are environmental problems due to the ingress of oil and oil products into the water.

Motykley springs

It was declared a natural monument in 1975. The closest settlement is Balaganoe. The sources are divided into three groups. Pravo-Ulukanskaya with 25 outlets of mineral waters cooled and partially diluted by groundwater, Levo-Ulukanskaya with 6 outlets of mineral waters with elevated temperatures and less studied Middle Ulukanskaya, its mineralization is higher than that of neighboring springs.

Sculpture of a mammoth in Magadan

Holy Trinity Cathedral

Built in Magadan between 2001 and 2008. It is the cathedral and the second largest in the Russian Far East. The architectural style is pseudo-Russian. The building is massive, and stands as if on a pedestal with a wide staircase leading to the entrance. There are about a hundred rooms inside the cathedral, including a refectory, a parish school, and offices. The two main icons of the iconostasis were painted in the Trinity-Sergeeva Lavra.

Regional Museum of Local Lore

Founded in 1934 in Magadan on the basis of an exhibition held in the city together with the congress of collective farmers. Museum materials tell about different periods. For example, about the long past of the region, which was inhabited by Evens and Yakuts, as well as about the times of Stalinist repressions. Magadan Music and Drama Theater

It began its existence in 1933 as a small theater group. During that period, not only hired artists worked here, but also prisoners. In 1941, it officially became known as the Music and Drama Theater. In 1996 it received its current status and name. The building where the performances are staged belongs to the Stalinist Empire style. There are four statues on the portico - people of different professions.

Victory Square

Appeared in Magadan in its current form in 2010 in honor of the 65th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Not only a walking area, but also an important part of the history of the city. Magadan Regional Puppet Theater

It has been operating since 1979, its opening was timed to coincide with the year of the child held in the world. For 8 years, the performances were staged in a small building, renting premises in the city park. In its 15th season, the theater received a new house, specially built for the troupe, taking into account all the needs of the collective. There are employees who have been working here since its inception. The repertoire consists of more than 30 performances.

Kolymskaya HPP

Built on the river of the same name. The work has been carried out since 1970, and the units were fully commissioned in 1994. Provides the region with electricity by 95%. The length of the dam is 683 m, its height is 135 m. The spillway is surface, there is no sluice. The area of ​​the formed reservoir is more than 45 thousand hectares. When it was created, it was necessary to flood the fields and move about fifty buildings.

Museum "Memory of Kolyma"

It has been located in the village of Yagodnoye since 1994. It was founded on the initiative of a local resident and subsequently acquired a public status. The collection consists of thousands of exhibits related to the repressions and camps of the Magadan region. At the disposal of the museum were the original files (folders with materials), documents and personal belongings of prisoners. The museum has an extensive photo archive and a library of the history of the Gulag.

Kolyma river

It flows not only in Magadan, but also in the Yakutsk region. The name is translated from Finno-Ugric languages ​​as “death”. The total length is 2129 km. The source is the confluence of the Kulu and Ayan-Yuryakh, and flows into the East Siberian Sea. It has many tributaries. It freezes in the middle of autumn, there is a period of ice drift, it finally frees itself from ice closer to summer. At the same time, the water temperature remains cool.

Reserve "Odyan"

Has a regional status since 1993. Located in the Olsky district on an area of ​​more than 72 thousand hectares. Located in the apartment where the singer lived. In 1995, after his death, it received its current status and was transformed from a music room into a museum. The artist was popular in the 30-50s. The exposition includes not only Kozin's personal belongings (letters, records, books), but also works of art kept at his home. The furnishings in the rooms have been kept intact. Publishing activities are carried out at the museum.

"Serpentinka"

Monument to the victims of the Gulag on the site of the former transit prison. It was installed in 1991 on the site where one of the GULAG camps used to be. Here the sentences of triple courts were carried out. The camp was destroyed shortly after Stalin's death. The monument is a figured stone surrounded by barbed wire, with a black plaque at the base. It is dedicated to all those who suffered unjustly from the Stalinist regime.

Monument to Vladimir Vysotsky

Opened in 2014 at the observation deck in Magadan. The reason is 75 years since Magadan became a city. Vysotsky visited the city once in 1968. The result of his one-day trip to a friend is two songs that tell about his impressions of the peculiarities of the city. The monument is a sculpture of a singer with a jacket thrown over his shoulder in one hand and a guitar lowered to the ground in the other.

Natural History Museum

The first profile of the Magadan Museum, founded in 1977, is geological and mineralogical. In 2002, the collection was replenished with new groups of exhibits, including ethnographic and archaeological collections, so it was decided to rename the museum. Until now, it is not independent and belongs to the research institute. Several educational programs have been developed to attract students to science.

Landing site of the first Kolyma geological expedition

A stele was installed on the shores of the Sea of ​​Okhotsk in 1978. Here Bilibin's expedition landed, who was the first to come to study and develop these lands in 1928. The memorial sign is a vertical blue slab with a metal map of the region and a geological sign on it, and an asterisk marks where exactly the path of the pioneers began. There is a small chapel nearby.

Opened in 2003 in the historical center of Magadan. Exhibition halls are located on the second floor of the Metallist complex. Talan Island

Located in the north of the Okhotsk Sea. The area is about 250 hectares. There is no permanent population. Its main attraction is its vast colony of birds. The coastal waters are rich in fish and zooplankton, which feeds 1.8 million birds. The vegetation on the island is specific, since the flora species had to adapt to a number of conditions. Has the status of a natural monument.

Mine "Dneprovsky"

In the past, tin was mined here. Mothballed in 1944 after several years of work. It reopened in 1949, with a camp founded, so the prisoners worked here. In 1955 it was completely liquidated. Now on the site of "Dneprovskoe" there are traces of buildings, ruins, lopsided camp towers. At the entrance to the mine itself - a lens of ice, blocking the road further.
